Michael MacKay, Leasing Manager
Michael is the leasing manager in Bay Property Management Group’s Laurel office. He’s been in this position since May of 2019, after being promoted from the corporate Baltimore office where he was a leasing agent.
How Michael Came to Property Management
Michael has been with BMG for three years, where he was first introduced to property management. He was a leasing agent for two years before receiving his promotion to the Laurel office. Before BMG, Michael had several different positions, including pre-school teacher, a client relations manager, and an operations manager. Michael has a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts from Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Florida.
A Day in the Life of Michael MacKay
Michael is responsible for managing a team of committed and driven leasing agents who have the common goal of getting properties marketed and rented as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Michael manages the day-to-day responsibilities of talking with the property management team, property owners, and the agents to ensure everyone’s working together as a team to achieve and exceed their goals. Michael helps oversee the agents’ roles in securing qualified tenants, writing and signing off on leases, and moving tenants in. Michael also assists with payroll for the agents and conducts one-on-one weekly meetings with each to go over properties and find ways to get units and houses rented swiftly.
For Michael, a typical day starts by going through emails and forwarding leads to the agents that are assigned to various properties. He problem-solves issues that need to be resolved from a marketing standpoint and assigns and creates the marketing descriptions for the properties that are ready to be listed. From there, he has his weekly meetings with one or a few of the agents to go over their properties so he can help them with the necessary fixes to get the property rented. Michael tracks the properties that are almost ready to go to market and prepares them for public viewing by taking photos of the listings in his area to ensure each property’s marketing campaign is on point.
From solving any move-in or marketing issues to running reports of monthly and quarterly goals for the agents, and updating property listings that are about to come onto the market, Michael’s days are busy and full of variety. It takes a ton of constant follow up and extreme organization to make sure the team runs smoothly, which is why BMG is glad to have Michael on our side!

Michael loves seeing how happy the agents are when they rent a property that they worked so hard on! He can remember that feeling of accomplishment and the relief of closing the deal on a property that took a while to rent.

When Michael’s not working, you’ll find him at home with his beautiful wife and two amazing kids. When he’s not fulfilling his role as Father of the Year, Michael is also a theatrical actor who loves to perform.

- What’s one little known fact that most people don’t know about you?
I have performed in various plays and musicals. I sing, yes, but not as well as my wife does!
- Name something off your bucket list.
Visit Australia! “Bondi!”
- If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet and why?
Robin Williams. I think we would have a delightful conversation.
- If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Renovating homes. I feel this is extremely handy these days and would love to buy an old house and flip it. But I would love to work with someone first before going about it on my own.
- Describe your dream vacation.
Disney World with the family then go on a long Disney Cruise.

- If you were guaranteed to be successful in a different profession, what would you want to do?
A famous actor. I’m not into the whole glitz and glamour that comes with it but would love to act with the best.
