Meet Tiffany Thomas, Leasing Agent for BMG Laurel
Leasing agents are crucial for successful Baltimore property management companies. Tiffany Thomas is one of our outstanding leasing agents and has been with us since 2022.
Tiffany started as a realtor in her early 20s but went on to get an education in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has a BS and MS in Counseling Psychology with nine years in Federal Government. Once the pandemic hit, she became a full-time stay-at-home mom, as her job was not one that could be done from home.
Once offices and schools reopened, Tiffany decided to get back into real estate, as it allowed flexibility in her schedule and provided an income for the family. Luckily, she got a referral from another agent to BMG and learned more about what it’s like to be a leasing agent.
Now, she’s been an excellent asset to our team for a year and a half!
A Day in the Life of Tiffany Thomas
Tiffany’s day starts bright and early at 7:30 am, when she wakes up and responds to emails or inquiries. She also homeschools her three daughters, so unless she has an inspection, meeting, or morning showing scheduled, she starts with online administrative work until around 1 pm.
Then, she’ll do showings, move-in inspections, or meet with tenants for keys from 2 pm to 6 pm. After that work is done, she’ll take a break for dinner and family time and finish up the evening with a few last emails and admin work, ending her day around 8:30 pm.
Some of Tiffany’s main responsibilities include the following.
- Marketing properties on various platforms
- Providing weekly updates to property owners
- Reaching out to leads and showing them listings
- Conducting move-in inspections
- Placing and removing lockboxes from properties
When asked about her favorite part of her job, Tiffany says,
“Meeting potential tenants and helping them find their “home for now.” I like to hear their stories, be it what brought them to the area or what’s making them move.”
Something that surprised Tiffany about working in the property management industry is how much time one spends in the car going from one place to another. She says,
“In the beginning, I was always running from one showing to another. Now, I’m better at block scheduling and calendar appointments.”
Why Tiffany Loves Bay Property Management Group
Although she’s never worked at another property management company, she thinks that what sets BMG apart is that she has fun at her job!
Her best piece of advice for anyone considering this field or those in the property management industry already includes the following,
“Work on your writing and communication skills. We send out a lot of emails, whether it’s to reach a potential tenant or deal with happy or irate property owners. Knowing how to communicate effectively with all sources is a great tool to have.”
Getting to Know Tiffany Thomas Outside of the Office
- When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do? – “I love reading, mainly romance, be it vampire, historical, or young adult. I’m also into Korean and Chinese dramas. Since I watch and read the subtitles, those are like reading books with pictures!”
- Tell us something off your bucket list – “Skydiving in Dubai at the Palm Jumeirah.”
- What is the best book you have ever read? – “I won’t say the “best book,” but I have a favorite author–Shel Silverstein. True, it’s not romance, but I read him growing up, and I like reading his work to my kids, so it’s like a full circle.”
- What are three words to describe yourself? – “Cheerful, friendly, approachable.”
