In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we’re thrilled to introduce Khristina Cassandra Te, our Leasing Administrator in our Baltimore office. Khristina brings deep operational expertise and strong leadership to our team, driving growth and ensuring the Baltimore office runs smoothly and efficiently.
What Inspired Khristina to Pursue This Career?
Khristina joined our Baltimore property management company about 4 years ago, and initially applied to be an accountant, since she’s a Certified Public Accountant. However, she ended up in Leasing – a challenge that she’s happy to have undertaken.
When asked what inspired her to pursue her career path, she said,
“I’ve always been drawn to service-type work because I love the tangible impact it has on the lives of people.”
On the other hand, she also likes the balance between spontaneous, reliable, quick solutions, and proper methodical systems you can count on most days.
Her Professional Journey Before BMG
Before BMG, Khristina was an editor for EY and worked at a London-based audit company, where she was fortunate enough to gain exposure to different industries and their inner financial workings. It’s here where she gained the grit and endurance to work through moments of intense stress and tight deadlines.
A Typical Day at BMG for Khristina
Khristina’s responsibilities have changed quite a bit compared to when she first started at BMG. Among others, an addition to her daily responsibilities that she’s most excited to have taken up is getting to train leasing administrators for other departments and setting them up for success.
“I am grateful for the experiences and knowledge my mentors and colleagues have imparted to me throughout the years, so I hope to be able to do the same to my subordinates.”
Are There Any Recognitions That Have Helped You Grow in Your Role?
Khristina was given a year-end shoutout as the Department MVP during her first year at BMG!
“This was such an achievement for me, considering we had so many ankle-breaking moments.”
From catching up with the backlog to optimizing the leasing and renewals system, she accomplished so much greatness, all while still trying to learn the role. To this day, she says, it gives her the optimism that we can do better every day.
What’s Most Satisfying About the Job?
What gives Khristina the most satisfaction or keeps her moving on tough days differs every now and then. However, lately, it’s that she’s had the opportunity to train several people for leasing and renewals.
“I think being able to see them thrive and love the role makes me feel fulfilled and keeps me going, amongst other things.”
What Makes BMG’s Workplace Unique?
Khristina thinks that diversity makes BMG’s workplace unique. She says,
“Coming from different communities and different cultures makes our services feel more empathetic and compassionate, which makes sense because our clientele is pretty diverse, too!”
Skills that Help Her Succeed in Property Management
Khristina believes that, as a service-driven industry, empathy is a very underrated skill.
“Of course, everything else is important too, especially the technical know-how of how the industry runs, but I believe this industry primarily exists because we need people to be there to act in the interest and protection of the people – both the owner and the tenants – to be able to function as a community.”
She thinks this is what truly makes a community, and being able to contribute to that is something she’s incredibly grateful for.
What Impact Does Khristina Want to Make?
In the long term, Khristina hopes to contribute to the knowledge and setup of systems here that other departments are able to utilize. She explains,
“I think it’s important to think and care about things bigger than yourself, which I hope to be able to do.”
Getting to Know Her Outside the Office
We love getting to know the people behind the work, so we asked Khristina some questions to learn more about her personal life.
Do you have a hidden talent or hobby you enjoy outside of work?
“Oh, I have tons of hobbies outside of work! Just this weekend, I learned how to do a proper yoga headstand with multiple variations AND baked Earl Grey chocolate chip cookies for the first time! I enjoy my life outside work, I think it’s important to have a good work-life balance, which I am grateful for at BMG.”
Tell us something off your bucket list and what it means to you.
“One item on my bucket list is learning how to free dive. I’m a pretty good swimmer myself, I think, but I’d have to undergo formal training and get a proper certification to go proper free diving. I’d love to go and explore local coral reefs and maybe do some volunteer work for local marine rehabilitation.”
