Meet Brian Rife, Property Inspector for BMG Northern VA
Brian is one of our most experienced team members, having been with BMG since 2011, when the company acquired his previous employer, Property Management Group (PPM). His journey in property management began in January 2010, giving him almost 16 years of expertise in the rental industry.
Before property management, Brian served the country as a 12 Bravo Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army. His time in the military instilled a strong sense of discipline, attention to detail, and a commitment to teamwork in challenging situations. Following his service, he transitioned into the civilian workforce with a new home builder, where he gained valuable, hands-on experience in residential construction. This background gave him a strong appreciation for how homes are built, making him a perfect fit for his current role.
Brian was first introduced to PPM by his brother, and he immediately saw the opportunity to leverage his construction knowledge in the property inspection field—a decision he hasn’t regretted.
A Day in the Life of Brian
As a Property Inspector, Brian describes his role as dynamic, ensuring no two days are ever the same. His primary responsibility is to be the “eyes and ears of the properties” for owners and property managers by conducting thorough inspections and reporting any potential issues that need to be addressed.
His day can start at 9 a.m. and involves various tasks, from on-site home inspections to writing detailed reports and handling administrative duties. Depending on whether it’s a move-out, move-in, or interim inspection, he may spend anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours at a property.
Brian’s favorite part of the job is the personal connection. “I love meeting people and getting to know them,” he shares. He also enjoys getting to see the different layouts and designs of all the properties he visits.
When asked what he wishes people knew about his job, Brian emphasizes the required effort: “It takes a lot of work and experience to exceed in this position. You have to think quickly on your feet and try and resolve a lot of issues. A lot of times I am the only face of the company people will see.”
Why Brian Loves BMG
Brian believes that BMG’s commitment to service sets the company apart in the competitive property management landscape.
“Our customer service and fluidity with how we work is what makes Bay Property Management Group stand out,” Brian explains. This streamlined and client-focused approach allows him to do his job effectively and efficiently.
Getting to Know Brian Outside the Office
When he’s not inspecting properties, Brian loves to spend time coaching his kids in sports. Both are heavily involved in travel and school teams, keeping him busy and focused on teamwork off the clock.
If he could meet anyone, Brian would choose the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix. Having played music since he was seven, Brian deeply admires his artistry. On a more philosophical note, his favorite book is The Bible. Also, he describes himself in three words as: Loving, Fun, and Musical.
Brian’s Advice for Industry Newcomers
Brian offers practical advice for anyone considering a career in property inspection: “Get to know how to really look at a property and what to look for.” Given his long tenure, his insight on the importance of a keen eye and quick problem-solving is invaluable.
Bay Property Management Group is proud to have employees like Brian, whose dedication, construction expertise, and friendly approach ensure we provide exceptional service to both owners and tenants.
