Meet Claire Tapalas, NoVA Property Manager
Claire Tapalas, one of our dedicated Northern Virginia property managers, started working at BMG two years ago and works remotely from Manila, Philippines! Her journey with remote work started in 2012, and she’s been consistently working in the property management field throughout her career.
Claire’s roles have ranged from administrative assistant to assistant property manager and team lead for the maintenance crew. Now, she’s a property manager here at Bay Property Management Group!
A Day in the Life of Claire Tapales
Claire works in Manila, so she begins working around 6 pm, which is 6 am EST. She starts her day by checking emails and preparing for the day ahead.
As a property manager, she has several responsibilities to keep tenants and property owners happy. For instance, she essentially acts as a go-between for tenants and owners, ensuring everyone’s needs are met and properties are well-maintained. Whether addressing concerns, organizing repairs, or keeping things running smoothly, she’s there to ensure everything stays on track.
A typical work day for Claire starts with her tackling important emails before the rest of her team is up. Once she’s got those handles, she grabs a coffee and enjoys some quiet time before work picks up for the day. From there, she dives into her task list to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. The rest of her day is usually spent managing phone calls and responding to emails.
When asked what her favorite part of her job is, Claire answered:
“Getting things done! There’s no better feeling than the feeling of accomplishment. Happy tenant = happy owner = happy PM.”
If there’s anything that has surprised Claire about the property management industry, it’s discovering her ability to succeed in her role. She genuinely enjoys learning new things and exceeding her own expectations. She says,
“It’s been rewarding to realize just how much I can accomplish and grow beyond what I initially imagined.”
She says that one thing she wishes other people realized about her job is that while it may seem easy to spend your day on the computer or phone, it takes a lot of energy to get things done.

Getting to Know Claire Outside of the Office
- When you’re not in the office, what do you like to do? – “I enjoy hanging out with my family on the weekends. On days I want some quiet time, I spend time in the corner of a cafe with my ebook and a good cup of coffee.”
- Tell us something off your bucket list – “Solo travel! It was a 12-hour land travel somewhere in the northern part of the Philippines. Climbed a mountain, went cave spelunking, and hiked through the forest. Nothing beats the feeling of independence.”
- What is the best book you have ever read? – “My current read, Before the Coffee Gets Cold. It might not be the most groundbreaking book, but it offers a valuable reminder that the present moment is what truly matters. It underscores the importance of appreciating what we have right here and now.”
- If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be? – “Social media can be enjoyable and engaging at times, but excessive use can be detrimental. It often skews people’s perspectives and impacts their view of life in ways that may not be healthy. Moderation is key to maintaining a balanced and realistic outlook.”
- What are a few words to describe yourself? – “Ambivert and reliable.”
